Two Premium Bonds holders from Hampshire and Outer London celebrate their big win of £1 million

  • May’s jackpot millionaires come from Hampshire and Outer London
  • ERNIE has drawn over 5.8 million prizes this month, worth over £453 million

ERNIE has made May millionaires of two Premium Bonds holders from Hampshire and Outer London, who both scooped the jackpot in this month’s draw.

The first Bond number drawn was 514CV247038 and is held by a winner based in Hampshire. The winner has a holding of £45,000 in Premium Bonds and purchased their winning Bond in September 2022. They become the thirteenth £1 million jackpot winner from Hampshire.

The second Bond number to be drawn for the £1 million prize this month was 401XE212038 and the Bond holder lives in Outer London. The winner holds £10,575 in Premium Bonds and purchased the winning Bond in July 2020. They are the eleventh Premium Bonds jackpot millionaire from Outer London.

Andrew Westhead, NS&I Retail Director, said:
“Congratulations to our two new millionaires from Hampshire and Outer London. We’re glad that we can bring a smile to so many people each month with our tax-free prizes, ranging from £25 up to £1 million.

“This year we celebrate thirty years since ERNIE drew our first ever millionaire. The total prize pot for May was more than £453 million with over 5.8 million prizes being drawn. Each £1 Bond has an equal chance of winning so the more you save the more chances you have to win a tax-free prize.”

Unclaimed prizes

Premium Bonds prize winners receive notifications of their winnings if they have registered their contact details. However, there are instances where customers relocate or forget to update their contact details with NS&I. This can lead to unclaimed prizes, especially for those who opt to receive their prizes via cheque rather than bank transfer. Original paper Bonds can be registered online or by calling the helpline on 08085 007 007.

In Hampshire, there are 63,780 prizes worth £2,104,350 that are yet to be claimed.

In Outer London, there are 222,004 unclaimed prizes worth £7,746,975.

To receive prizes faster and more securely, customers can opt for automatic bank deposits or reinvestment into more Premium Bonds, which is how 90% of prizes are paid to winners. This is quicker and more secure than waiting for a cheque. Customers can find instructions on how to change payment preferences here. Customers who may have an unclaimed prize can easily check using NS&I’s online prize checker or the prize checker app. Currently there are 2,399,977 unclaimed prizes worth £83,367,525 waiting to be claimed.
